Our Academy

The New Bridge is a welcoming inclusive academy that caters for the needs of 125 students between the ages of eleven and nineteen who experience emotional, social, behavioural  and mental health difficulties. Additionally the academy is able to offer a small number of part time intervention placements. Also, the academy can offer help in education, for example, in writing dissertations, essays, and scientific papers. Just contact the service essays-service.com at https://essays-service.com/

We are part of the ‘Ascent Academies’ Trust’ which is a partnership of special academies in the North East. By working together we are able to share expertise and resources to enhance outcomes for all our learners.

Our holistic person centred approach creates a nurturing environment with a positive ethos and climate in which we celebrate achievement and reward positive behaviour choices.

The New Bridge Academy is a split site provision located in Sunderland in two purpose built provisions that have some excellent facilities. On the Lower Site we have five all-purpose classrooms we have specialist rooms for science, art, music, IT and design technology. Additionally we have a state of the art recording studio, a sports hall, outdoor MUGA and fitness suite. We also have two facilities for the delivery of construction and a school flat which is used for a variety of purposes including therapeutic interventions, literacy support and independent living skills development. The Upper Site provision has over twenty classrooms plus specialist rooms such as a motor vehicle technology garage, hair and beauty salon, DT workshop, a large sports hall and two recreation areas.

These facilities are impressive and important to us however The New Bridge Academy’s greatest asset is our dedicated, highly trained staff who are committed to supporting our students to achieve their potential.

Our staff

  • build strong relationships with students
  • care about them
  • want the best for them
  • don’t judge them
  • don’t criticise them
  • are persistent, consistent and genuine

Our students feel

  • they are listened to
  • valued
  • safe
  • secure
  • important and empowered

They become confident, regain their self-esteem, develop emotional maturity and stability, they develop positive interpersonal skills and they learn to manage themselves in an appropriate manner. They take part in school life, access the curriculum and achieve.

At The New Bridge we believe that working in partnership with parents and carers is essential in enabling our students to achieve the best possible outcomes.  All our students are allocated personal tutors whose job is to be their advocate and the key person to link with parents and carers and any other professionals that the student may be involved with. Our tutors regularly visit parents and carers, in their homes, to update them on their child’s progress, formulate shared plans, and support them and their family in any way they can.

Circle Time

This is one of the most important things we do; it is where everyone is important and has the opportunity to have their say. We all take part in circle time four times a day on the Lower Site and three times on the Upper Site.

We use circle time to:

Prepare

We use circle time to mark the transition from break times to lesson times and the circle is where we settle down to prepare for formal lessons.

Pass on Information

The circle provides us with a simple and effective way of communicating information to all members of the school community.

Build self – esteem

The circle is where we acknowledge, celebrate and reward success and achievement.

Circle time is where the academy’s underlying philosophy is best seen in action.
